Now that you have your own domain name, once it is ‘up’ on the www you can start using it as your email address ie you@yourdomainname.com.

This serves two purposes, it helps you to promote your URL and it makes you independent from your ISP. If they are charging you too much, or not giving good service and you want to change, you need no longer worry about having to change your email address.
